How do I calculate salary after tax in Canada?

Start with gross salary, subtract federal income tax, provincial or territorial income tax, CPP or QPP contributions, and EI premiums. Your exact paycheque can also change because of benefits, pension deductions, union dues, credits, and employer payroll settings.

Why does take-home pay change by province?

Federal tax is the same across Canada, but each province has its own tax brackets and credits. CPP and EI are also applied nationally, while Quebec uses QPP and a different provincial tax system.

Which calculator should I use first?

Use the salary-after-tax-by-province calculator when comparing provinces, the income tax calculator for a detailed tax breakdown, and the salary calculator when you want a quick monthly take-home estimate.
